Hybrid (1 day/week in Rockville, MD office)
About PNCB
PNCB is the largest and most essential organization for the certification, continuing education, and competency development of nursing professionals who provide care for children, adolescents, and young adults. Established in 1975, PNCB certifies more than 56,000 nursing professionals who actively hold at least one of our four credentials: Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC), Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-PC), and Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist (PMHS). We’re passionate about the positive impact our services have on nursing professionals, children, and families. And with an annual renewal rate of 96%, PNCB-certified professionals are passionate about holding our credentials.

We’re a group of 25+ highly dedicated, committed professionals passionate about our mission! We consider it a privilege to support certificants so they can provide best-in-class patient care. We’re also excited to work with each other. So much so, for the fourth consecutive year, we have earned a “Best Place to Work” award for cultivating a people-centric culture that respects every person who dedicates their time to our mission. Our staff core values are on full display every day: Integrity, Teamwork and Approachability, Responsive Communication and Service, Supportiveness and Inclusivity, and Excellence.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Manager of Marketing and Communications who is a digital-first marketing strategist, a polished writer, and a data-driven storyteller. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Business Relations, you will help us move beyond tactical execution and become a vital partner in professionalizing our digital marketing engine.
You will research audience behaviors and market trends to ensure our marketing is proactive, thoughtful, and strategically aligned with the pediatric nursing profession, transforming our certification value proposition into compelling omnichannel campaigns.
The Profile
At its core, this role requires an excellent writer and content developer with professional polish. You must be able to translate complex clinical value propositions into compelling narratives that resonate with nurses, nurse practitioners, faculty, and healthcare executives. Whether you are drafting a comprehensive marketing plan for new micro-credentials or crafting high-conversion digital ad copy, your writing will define the PNCB story. We value a “writer-plus” mentality—someone who loves the craft of writing and uses modern tools like AI to refine and edit for maximum impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Content Development: Conceive, write, and oversee coordinated targeted marketing and advertising efforts. This includes drafting social media posts, emails, brochures, posters, postcards, slideshows, letters, and e-blasts with a consistent voice.
- Strategic Marketing Plans: Develop and implement detailed marketing plans for all PNCB products, including four (4) core certifications, the Recertification efforts, CE offerings, and microcredentials.
- Omnichannel Digital Management: Manage the organization’s digital reach using Hootsuite, Higher Logic (Informz), and Feathr. This includes managing geofencing advertising, social media calendars (LinkedIn, FB, IG), and automated email marketing.
- Product & Industry Promotion: Execute full-lifecycle marketing for products, industry events, and workforce development promotional kits.
- Data-Driven Analysis: Monitor, measure, and evaluate the progress of marketing activities. You will analyze metrics from email platforms and web reports to identify “hot topics” and provide data-backed recommendations for future efforts.
- Website & Brand Stewardship: Monitor website content, develop updates, and ensure PNCB branding guidelines are utilized consistently across all messaging platforms.
- Industry Relations & Outreach: Provide staff support for the CPN Champions volunteer ambassador program. You will represent PNCB a few times/year at industry conferences, staffing booths and speaking with stakeholders about the value of certification.
- Cross-Functional Support: Provide marketing and communications support for various staff teams and assist the VP in monitoring annual marketing budgets.
- Brand Stewardship: Ensure PNCB branding guidelines are utilized consistently across all platforms, maintaining a cohesive voice in stakeholder communications and web content.
- Collaborative Mentorship: Offer mentoring support and project leadership oversight to the Marketing Coordinator to ensure all team projects stay ahead of schedule.
What This Job Is NOT
To ensure this role aligns with your career path, we want to clarify what this position will not involve:
- Not a Heavy Graphic Design Role: While you will review designs and use Canva for quick digital assets, graphic design is handled by the Coordinator and freelancers.
- Not a Traffic Manager Role: You focus on the creation and planning of content, while the Coordinator manages the logistics of posts and resource lists.
- Not PR or Journalism: This role is focused on program marketing and conversion rather than media relations or journalistic reporting.
- Not Advocacy or Public Affairs: Your focus is on promoting the value of the profession, not government relations or lobbying.
Who You Are:
- Enthusiastic Self-Starter: You “raise your hand” for new challenges, are driven to spot opportunities for digital innovation, you learn quickly, and do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
- Innovative & Future-Focused: You are forward-thinking individual and bring “What If” energy to make great things even better.
- High Emotional Intelligence: You are approachable, respectful, and a natural “cheerleader” for your colleagues.
- Accountable & Positive: You own your projects from start to finish, maintain a positive attitude even when things are “not always comfortable,” and work to find solutions rather than just identifying problems.
- Intellectually Curious: You are interested in data storytelling and translating those numbers into real-world benefits for our audiences.
Experience
- Bachelors in Marketing or Communication, or equivalent experience in a marketing or communications role. Background in a healthcare nonprofit, certification board, or professional membership association is highly preferred.
Preferred Tech Skills
- Microsoft Ecosystem: Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint and Teams, as well as familiarity with CRM or other customer databases.
- Digital Marketing & Social Media Platforms: Proficiency or experience with Hootsuite, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Vimeo.
- Content & Web Management Tools: Familiarity with HTML, Drupal, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Work Environment & Culture
Supportive & Mentorship-Driven Leadership: Becky Rice, our VP of Marketing and Business Relations, is a total advocate for her team. She’s a collaborative mentor who believes in “sharing the kudos” and turning feedback into learning moments. She also loves to feed the team with her amazing homemade cookies. 😊
A People-First Culture: We work hard but respect that you have a life. Our award-winning culture prioritizes work-life balance and celebrates our wins at bi-weekly meetings.
Hybrid Perks: One day a week in the office, virtual the rest of the time, and we have a “No Meeting Fridays” so you can focus on task work and planning.
