Alliance for Aging Research

agingresearch.org

Are you passionate about empowering vulnerable populations? Are you interested in supporting the fundraising efforts of an organization equipping older adults with health information so that they can live longer, healthier lives? Are you seeking a role where you can advance your career in fundraising by growing your research, writing, and logistics coordination skills?

If so, we want to hear from YOU!

WHO WE ARE:

The Alliance for Aging Research (the “Alliance”) is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the pace of scientific discoveries and their application to vastly improve the universal human experience of aging and health.

The majority of funds raised by the Development department are corporate sponsorships and grants that support specific health education campaigns, such as Valve Disease Awareness Day, and public policy and advocacy initiatives, such as Project LOOP. The Alliance especially values its partnerships with pharmaceutical and medical device companies, along with patient organizations, and nonprofits who align with its mission.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Your job is to support the Alliance’s development efforts with the Vice President of Development through prospect research, donor communications, data management, and logistical support for the Alliance’s programmatic events.

About 75% of your work will be Development support:

• You’ll draft development communications, including appeals, grant proposals, and website copy.

• You’ll conduct prospect research for individual and corporate donors.

• You’ll enter gifts and produce invoices, acknowledgments, and tax receipts.

• You’ll produce donor reports, annual reports, and other collateral materials.

• You’ll conduct monthly reconciliation of billable revenue with the Finance department.

• You’ll enter data and manage grant and donor information within Salesforce database.

• You’ll troubleshoot and perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

About 25% of your work will be event logistics support:

• You’ll oversee logistics for programmatic events organized by the Alliance and other internal departments.

• You’ll assist the Development department with the execution of the annual Heroes in Health fundraiser.

• You’ll manage the handling of all necessary meeting materials (such as signage, speaker PowerPoint presentations, name tags, handouts, etc.)

• You’ll develop invitation lists, send event communications, and manage registrations.

• You’ll provide technical support for event facilitators, speakers, vendors, and attendees.

• You’ll troubleshoot and perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

WHAT YOU WON’T BE DOING:

Since we want you to be happy in this role, we’d like to share a couple of areas that you won’t be involved with right now, in case these are important to your career goals.

  • You won’t be raising funds for programs that provide direct services to older adults; however you WILL be raising funds for health education programs and public policy campaigns that are critical in their healthcare journey.
  • You won’t be working on fundraising appeal campaigns (i.e. #GivingTuesday, year-end appeals); however you WILL be making direct fundraising “asks” and drafting grants from corporate partners.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH:

In this super fast-paced role, you’ll partner with your supervisor, Sarah Delgado, Vice President of Development who has been helping the Alliance advance its fundraising goals for 10 years. A high energy, effervescent personality, Sarah has been an invaluable team member, having tripled revenues during her tenure through cultivating partnerships and managing the annual fundraising gala. In fact, she started out as Development Coordinator, so she looks forward to mentoring you as you (hopefully!) follow in her footsteps.

ARE THERE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES?

Absolutely! The Alliance loves to provide career opportunities for every team member who wants to embrace new challenges. Depending on your career aspirations, you’re welcome to grow into an operations OR fundraising track as you help Sarah build capacity for expanding the Alliance’s fundraising initiatives.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • At least two to three years of fundraising experience. Experience with events management is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software/reporting tools. Experience with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Proficiency with email marketing platforms. Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (formerly Pardot) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with webinar software. Experience with Zoom Webinars is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, service-oriented, enthusiastic work style, with the ability to prioritize, take initiative, and work independently or on a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply successful fundraising techniques and development best practices.
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidences with donor and financial information.
  • Good judgment and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment and ability to articulate the mission of the Alliance for Aging Research.
